Oommen Chandy’s Demise: Former Chief Minister of Kerala and senior Congress leader, Oommen Chandy, breathed his last on Tuesday (July 18). He was seen alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The news of his demise was shared by Sudhakaran, the president of the Kerala Congress, and Chandy’s family members on Tuesday. Oman Chandy, known as a stalwart Congress leader, was 79 years old. Sudhakaran tweeted,

Who Was Oommen Chandy? Oommen Chandy served as the Chief Minister of Kerala from 2004 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2016. The experienced Congress leader began his political career at the age of 27 when he won in the 1970 state assembly elections and started his tenure as a legislator. Later, he went on to win 11 consecutive elections. Chandy represented his home constituency, Puthuppally, throughout the past five decades.

In 2022, he became the member with the longest-serving tenure in the state assembly, serving Puthuppally for 18,728 days. He surpassed the record of the late K. M. Mani, the former supremo of the Kerala Congress (M). Chandy had four different ministerial positions throughout his political career, and he also led the opposition in the state assembly four times.
